"Proper Mainpage"
Nagare 15:53, 30 June 2009 (UTC)
This was something brought up by Benedict, in the WikiGuides DSF thread. He suggested a "proper" main page. Just so the rest of you know, we had the standard neowiki main page on this wiki for a while. It just did not work. Just because something is standard doesn't mean it is proper, but I felt I would make this section to see how the rest of you felt about the current main page. Ways to improve it? Ways to make it look more "proper"?overKill 16:05, 30 June 2009 (UTC)
It looks fine, if it was the regular one, it would look like crap. Benedict's just being a twat.Nagare 16:14, 30 June 2009 (UTC)
The thing is, if you try to make it fancy, it doesn't look all that great. If you make it fancy and pretty, no one reads the important shit which we made as noticeable as possible and they still screw it up somehow. We most likely will not be changing the current template as all the important content is easily visible and not a page stretcher so it is at least partially likely that someone will read through all of it, or at least skim.
And for hub main pages, we don't want to use the full neowiki main page template because that detracts from the content and we fell that the current template is the easiest to manage and use as a reader.Relmutsie AN 16:54, 30 June 2009 (UTC)
I'll be going around the hubs later this week to see if I can make them "fancier". Otherwise Nagare is right. There is nothing that can be done, and to be COMPLETELY honest, there is nothing that should be done. This is one of the easiest wikis to *bleep* up (I can pik a few) and if we were to *bleep* up the main page by taking peoples' focus off the guidelines and information, they would *bleep* it up even further.
Btw, hows the Power Rangers banner coming along?SSBB Crazy 30 June 2009
I agree that fancier front pages look nice, but they also draw attention from the things that really matter. When I go to a Wiki with the "normal" set-up I tend to skip over most of things you should probably read, but when I came here I right away read what was said because it was direct. I think it looks find. (:Prometheusx303 04:06, 1 July 2009 (UTC)
Here's the deal: If you (anyone) wants to try to spice up the Main Page, you may go ahead and do it yourself. However, don't do it to the actual Main Page, but save it to Main Page (Spice). At the moment, it's pretty much an exact copy of the Main Page.Benedict
Stop swearing. Even if you *bleep* it. You all need to learn self-control, especially Relmusie AN. Most of you do, anyway.
It was only a suggestion. You don't need to treet a suggestion made by me like this all the time.Nagare 13:24, 27 July 2009 (UTC)
Don't try to re-engage an argument Benedict. I've already address this situation on the Harry Potter Neowiki. Also, for the signature spot, you don't put your name, you use the 4 ~s for the auto-gen one.General Templates
Prometheusx303 02:00, 5 July 2009 (UTC)
WikiGuides.neo currently has 63 General Templates. All of them are designed to be used throughout the Wiki, and are consequently protected so that only Staff Members can edit them. If anyone has any suggestions for new General Templates or as to how the current ones can be improved, please post your comments here.Benedict
Fix Template:Message so that people can put tags like the ! template for pipe in without it messing up. And the Wigly brackets.Nagare 13:24, 27 July 2009 (UTC)
Most templates don't allow use of other templates but for the "Wigly" brackets, just use the pre or nowiki tags.Prometheusx303 14:32, 27 July 2009 (UTC)
Template:Message works fine. I think the problem you were having was because you were using a parameter called message instead of text.
