Message is used for having organized, well-formatted discussions on talk pages.

Usage

To place a message on a talk page using the Template, use the following code syntax:

{{Message
|sig=~~~~
|text=Message Here
}}

If you're starting a conversation under a new header section, please also set the type parameter to start.

{{Message
|type=start
|sig=~~~~
|text=Message Here
}}

Features

As a result of the Template, each message will have a decimal number in the top right corner. For instance, on Talk:Main Page, the first message under the first section has the number 1.0. That number is called the Message Index. You can link directly to any message on a talk page by appending appending #tm-Message Index to the address of the link. For instance, to link to the first message on Talk:Main Page, I would use Talk:Main Page#tm-1.0.

Template:Message also automatically colors the background of the first message of any conversation with #FFF5E5. Any additional comments by the originator of the conversation will also have the same background color. The background color of intermediate messages will alternate between #FFF and #EEE. Also, an icon will appear on each message, next to the Message Index. The image is colored according to the background color of the message, and clicking on the image will link you right to the message (i.e., you'll jump down to it).
